Florida Wild Flowers & Roadside Plants
Published in Hardcover by Laurel Hill Pr (December, 1992)
Average review score:

Gorgeous photographs, excellent information, easy to useThis book is a very useful guide to a large variety of Florida plants, as well as a superb collection of truly stunning photographs. It can be used for simple visual identification, but its organization by family and its binomial key make it user-friendly for the botanist as well.

Gas Kiln Firing
Published in Plastic Comb by Ritchie Unlimited Publications (January, 1999)
Average review score:

Easy to understand. This book is very easy to understand. I am not an advanced potter (I have fired a gas kiln before) and I have not had any trouble. All terms and charts are explained for those who are not familiar with them and examples are given to better explain concepts. I can't wait to apply this new knowledge to my own firing techniques.

Handbook of Second Language Acquisition
Published in Hardcover by Academic Press (June, 1996)
Average review score:

concise, thorough, from some of the finest in the fieldA very useful text for the serious student of second language acquisition research to keep on hand. Thorough and includes research not only in English but other languages as well. Covers concisely most of the best-known researchers and their work. Various theories, their history, development, and the research related to them are explained by a variety of experts in terms that most advanced undergraduates or graduate students would find comprehensible. The index is adequate and the overall organization of the text is generally good for searching a particular topic. Also much more relevant recent research included than in many other texts. All in all, a scholarly collection which puts together the same material a student would have to go through many lengthy texts to find, explained and organized in a very convenient way.

Industry and Air Power: The Expansion of British Aircraft Production, 1935-41 (Cass Series--Studies in Air Power, 4.)
Published in Paperback by Frank Cass & Co (June, 1997)
Average review score:

How Britain's aircraft industry prepared for warThe aurhor is a historian with the British Ministry of Defense so this is a semi-official history. In the late thirties the RAF started a program to expand the production capabilities of the British aircraft industry to cope with the needs of the anticipated war. This book describes how this program was handled. The only criticism one might make is that the lenngth of the book is too short (283 pages) to completely cover such a large subject.

It Comes From Within: the Frank Pettit Story
Published in Paperback by MYRON J BIGGAR GROUP INC (15 October, 1999)
Average review score:

Best book ever writtenI never read a book about trains before. I never thought I would. But when I sat down with this book, I couldn't put it down. The writing is superb; the content matter keeps you on the edge of the seat, even though I was on a bus, and the historic pictures were so much fun because of their spontaneous, rather than, set-up feel. I recommend this book even if you never thought you'd want to pick up a book on trains and Frank Pettit. Actually, I'd recommend this book even if you can't read!

the Lap Dulcimer's First Lady doesn't Disappoint--Jean Ritchie's Dulcimer People bridges the gap between the old0time players and the folk revival. For those of us who havbe a passion for this great instrument and the history that surronds it, Jean Ritchie's Dulcimer People is an essential source. From J. Edward Thomas, to the Ritchie family, to Farina, to Lynn McSpadden, this book covers a lot of hallowed ground. History then gives way to playing styles and great arrngements, and from there it proceeds to dulcimer building. This is an all-around great resource. Don't pass it up!
